For I know the plans I have for you,” declares
the Lord, “plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future – Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

For me at the age of 53, I
am still trying to figure this out! I have
known since I was a teenager that I wanted to do something in the field of psychology. I am now taking my first class in a graduate’s
program for Psychology!!!
My oldest son is a Sophomore
in college and this is the question that haunts him. It is so hard to know what you want to do
with the rest of your life when you have not had any real-world experience to
base your decision on. I am sure he
would love it if a vision just came to him saying “this is what you will love,
what you are passionate about and what you will be great at” Boom! (don’t worry
son, keep reading mom’s devo, in just a few short paragraphs the solution will be
clear😊)
Our youngest son, however,
well he has known since the third grade that he wants to be a Civil Engineer. His class met with the school counselor, Mrs.
B, one day and she talked to them about planning for their futures. She talked about different professions,
schooling and their dreams. That
afternoon our son came bounding thru the front door and announced to us that he
was going to be a Civil Engineer. He is
now a Junior in High School, taking engineering classes, on the robotics team
and on track to attend a college in pursuit of his engineering degree.
God knows the plans he has
for us. He has already made the plans
for our life, and they are plans to prosper us and not harm us. His promise to us is to give us hope and a
future.
This promise found in the
book of Jeremiah was a promise that God made to the covenant people in
Babylon. The good news is that we are
now part of the new covenant and that means that this promise is for us today!
I have found that most
promises in the bible come with a condition.
So, what is the condition of this promise? Jeremiah 29: 12-13 goes on to say “Then you
will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me
with all your heart.”
Seek God with all your heart!
In our song for today, they
sing:
“Anything we ask God
to do He can do…. Let faith arise…God is on our side…. He is with us…. He is
for us….Faithful is our God.”
So, today we will close in prayer as we seek
God with all our heart, asking Him to keep his promise to us and knowing that
our God is with us, He is for us and He is faithful. He’s got this one, we can rest in the knowledge
that He knows what we are going to be when we grow up. So, seek God today, knowing that you will
find God and his promises.
Heavenly Father, today
we call upon you, we ask for you to give us the wisdom, knowledge and
understanding we need to make the decisions about our future. What major to take in college, where to go to
school, what job to take, who to marry, whatever that next step is…. all of it
God. We seek you with all our heart knowing You
keep Your promises. Amen
